INTRODUCTION
Humans have been modifying the environment to fit the
need of society causing severe effects, like global warming, contamination and carbon
footprint, all of them getting worse if the biggest problem of human
overpopulation continues.
This work compares the lifestyle between Hindu and Colombian
people, taking into account the level of pollution and the carbon footprint in
each country, also showing the importance of how culture influence the
environmental situations.
Colombian Lifestyle
The population of Colombia is approximately 46.927.125
and the majority of people live in the cities or on the outsides of them. The
city people generally live better than the farmers because of the schools and
activities that can be find easily in the city. Usually, the middle and working
classes live in the more rural areas called tugurios.
Now, talking about the food, different regions have
different dishes like soups, such as an “Ajiaco”. Starch-like foods are
preferred among most people including potatoes, noodles and rice.
Another fact of the Colombian people is that they love
to watch or play soccer. Also to preserve the traditional vibe, they perform
native folk songs and dances. A popular form of music is called “cumbia” and is
rhythmic. Colombia is home to the biggest theater, flower parade, salsa
festival, outdoor horse parade, and the second largest festival.
Hindu Lifestyle
At first is important to talk about the social
organization of Hindu people. Hindu attitudes towards family life can appear
ambivalent. The block of Hindu society is the joint or extended family,
consisting of three generations living together, the women collectively cooks
and share domestic responsibilities, and then the men provide the pooled
income. Elders take important decisions and based on their own experience in
life, offer guidance to younger members. When women marry, they usually join
their husband`s family.
Also Hindu people have especially clothing; a married man
dressed in a traditional cotton ´dhoti´. On the top he wears a generously cut
shirt called a Kurta, but they can also wear Chaddar. A Hindu lady is dressed
in a Sari. Dress has religious significance, It demonstrates elegance and
simplicity.
Although in India there are many complex rules
regarding the preparation and consumption of food. Hinduism places show great
emphasis on the role of food that has been called “The kitchen religion”. Meat
is usually shunned as it is considered tamastic. Although same Hindus eat meat,
almost all avoid beef out of respect for the cow. The phrasada is the food
offered to god.
Now, focusing on the nature problems in each city, you can find that:
Colombia's
main environmental problems are soil erosion, deforestation and the preservation
of its wildlife, also air pollution from vehicle emissions is a problem,
especially in Bogota but Medellin city is taking advantage of, that’s why The
Colombian government is doing several programs to protect the environment in
the cities and rural places.
Now, With a population of over 1.3 billion, India is one of the most popular
countries of the world, and because of the population, some of the major
environmental concerns, as air pollution that is one of the worst scourges to
have affected India, as in Colombia, can make the nature problem grow quicker. Also the use of plastics is
another major problem for the country and the loss of more than 47 species of
animals and plants.
Carbon Footprint
analysis
According to the carbon footprint test that the
members of the group did on physical education class, it can be determinate
that they all got a level of 4 to 6 hectares per year, what amounts to a
lifestyle of two or three planets. With the above results it can be conclude
that the students should improve one or two activities that are not helping the
environmental situation, in order to reduce the levels of carbon footprint and
also their own lifestyle.
CONCLUSION
· Today, more people are
aware of the problems facing
the planet. However, not enough people are
actually doing anything to solve these problems.
· Everything is interconnected, and while the nature supplies human with
some important environmental services without which they cannot exist, they all
depend on each other’s actions and the way they treat natural resources, that´s
why students will take conscience and change some of their activities on their
daily life.
· Colombia
and india, are both countries that are facing some serious environmental
problems, that´s why people have to take action.
